For Memorial Day weekend I was invited to go camping with BOTH my brothers and my sister-in-law and their friends (and four dogs). If you know me, you know that I HATE camping. There is little to nothing that I like about it. But this post is not about the negatives of camping. I will do my best to remember all the fun times we had over the weekend. So here goes:
I love this dog. Freddie came with us and he was a champ in the car.
He even sang along to the radio. "AND IIIIIIIIII WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOUUUUU!"
Utah is looking green this time of year.
On our drive out to the campsite the full moon started to rise. I tried to get a good picture of it, but it was hard since we were driving.
These two are from the campsite.
We set up camp. This is were we resided for 3 days.
That is the kitchen/dining room/living room area. The last night at camp, the moon came up late so the sky was full of millions of stars. We had had a long day of rafting and it was so relaxing to sit, look at stars and joke, laugh and make s'mores.
Captain went exploring the first morning.
Me and A.
Camping love birds.
Freddie taking a siesta.
The Colorado River. We went there on our first day and cooled off.
My brother and his best friend.
I love a good sunset and Moab knows how to do sunsets.
I did a lot of self reflecting while camping. The things I reflected on brought me to the conclusion that I am kind of a spoiled brat. Okay, maybe "spoiled brat" is an exaggeration. I'm not going to complain about camping but here are some things I am thankful for: toilets (there is something satisfying about flushing a toilet), electricity, running water, my bed, sunblock, s'mores, sunsets, campfires, my family, mani/pedi, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, make-up, good friends, WiFi, air conditioning, restaurants, dressers, and last but not least SOLDIERS. All of them.
There were a lot of little lizards running around like the one above.
Captain took a nap on my knee.
On our second day, we rafted down the Colorado River. It was SO much fun. We had nine people and four dogs in a raft and it took us about six hours (including stopping for lunch). One of the best parts about being on the river all day was NOT getting sunburned. I made sure to protect my skin. The low part? Falling out of the raft. We came to some rapids, which had been SUPER fun to go through, but there was one patch with really rough rapids and my SIL and I both got tossed out of the raft. My brother jumped in after me but we got separated. The two of them got back on the raft more quickly than I did. I got pulled under a couple of time and banged my knee on a rock. When I first fell in, I ended up under the raft and scraped my forehead on it. There was a couple of times I thought I was going to die, but I had on my life vest and my crew had told me how to float on my back in such events. I remained pretty calm in the water. I did however cry a little when I got back in the boat. It was too scary for me. Also, I lost my Wayfarers when I went over. I might have cried a little about that too. I had a great time over the weekend. Not because I really love camping, but because I really love my brothers and I would do anything to hang out with them. Even if I have to go three days without a shower.
